Alessio's Startup analysis - First Stage

Hi everyone,

During last week I had the first meeting with the owner and co-founder of Efuture, Mattia Campolese.
With his long time friend Loris , they launched in 2013 Efuture providing as core business apps and Web portal and in general developing software.

The background of the two founders is completely different : indeed Mattia studied and graduated in civil engineering instead Loris studied but never graduated in Economics.
Even though their studies haven't so many analogies with the informatic field, they always had deep interest in developing softwares and in general in technologies . ( do you see here a limit not having a informatic background? )

About the team Efuture has now 2 more members chosen with accuracy by the founders using both the Strategic Dynamic and the Interpersonal Relation Dynamic : the result is that now Mattia is the leader developer,  Loris is in charge of the economics and customers and the two new members provide support to the founders.
( do you think it's a too lean team ? )

According to Mattia the relationship and the chemistry between the colleagues is crucial and it's one of the secrets for success ( or at least surviving in such a crowded field as software development )

As you can see during my first meeting I focused mainly on the Who , Teams and Economics frameworks.
Next time I'll face the Sara's Sarasvathy effectuation principles .

Any advice is of course well accepted!
Thanks !

  1. Hey Alessio,

I'm not sure if you heard me speaking to Ed today about my startup analysis but he suggested going into the meeting a few frameworks in mind. (I don't know about you, but I sort of did the opposite! I thought about them post-meeting) So perhaps for your meeting tomorrow with the company, if you want to focus on the effectuation principles, have a few concepts in the back of your mind and look at the company through the theories. And ask them questions to prove or even falsify the effectuation principles you chose. Just an idea for you :)

  2. Hi Jenn !
Many thanks for the helpful tips !
I've planned, as you suggested, some instances and questions to clarify the position of the startup regarding the effectuation principles .
    Thanks again !
